You must have seen the clip of Trump’s trouble reading the teleprompter script at a March 2 rally in North Carolina. It’s included lately in most all of the video compilations counterprogramming the Biden dementia narrative.
Has he introduced background music to his rally speeches just recently? I think so. At least in this clip the music makes him go all lyrical, kind of dreamy. Maybe that is why we’re treated to this new way of handling flubs. “Ahhh …”
Jon Favreau said on Pod Save America that he’d listened to this one over and over. Me too! I came to like the word “reepeetoot,” love it really. It’s so cute. Baby talk. Like covfefe.
And the more I listened, the more I could hear a song coming on:
Just helping you in your budding career as a crooner, buddy.
By the way, the news media should stop cleaning up his quotes. Reporters: you’re not his PR flacks. So publish the words he says. Try to persuade your editors to ditch the rules. You don’t have any obligation to help him appear more verbally talented than he is.
Everybody can stop deferring to him right now, past president status notwithstanding. Quote him verbatim.
