You hear talk about who will play whom in the movie, about how this or that historical event might be portrayed. Most people seem to assume there’s only one way to go – a Jay Roach-style Recount or Game Change movie, probably on HBO.
Maybe so. Maybe not. But maybe there’s plenty of fodder for that type of 2-hour film, and a series, and countless additional unorthodox modes of spooling out the story of Trump.
When it comes to TV, I like the idea of a quality streaming service presenting an anthology series. It would invite the best writers, directors and producers in the business to come up with any story they want, of any length, each dramatizing a narrow aspect of the Trump carnival.
One story could go in-depth into a single Oval Office meeting, like the Lawyers Against Jeffrey Clark.
Another story might take place over several months or years, but would tightly focus on the observations of a single witness, like a night housekeeper in the White House.
The stories could be fact-based or speculative, serious or funny. Let a thousand interpretations unfold.
Here’s an idea for a fictional episode for the series: It imagines Trump in prison or living in a halfway house with inmates who are impressed by his celebrity and want to hang out with him. This leads him, initially, to assume they would be happy to be his servants — run fetch him a Diet Coke, that sort of thing. They disabuse him of the notion.
What story would you like to see on the screen?
